Today’s traitor is #1 on my list ~ John Murtha.
“IT IS TIME TO BRING THEM HOME.”
Why he is allowed to remain a Congressman after all the things he has said against our troops and the rampant misuse of earmarks only shows how asleep this country still is. I certainly do not mean to imply he is the only Rep. to abuse his position. Lord knows, politicians have been doing that since this category of human endeavor was created.
And let’s not forget ABSCAM
What puts him at the top of my list is the fact that he used to be a Marine. I know, “once a Marin, always a Marine.” No. This no longer applies to him, as stated by many Marines who are outraged by his actions.
First of all, here’s Murtha’s views on the Iraq War in 2006 on Meet the Press:
“…On the floor the other day, you may have heard this, one fellow says, “We’re fighting this war.” We’re not fighting this war. One percent of the American people, these young men and women are fighting this war, with heavy packs, with 70 pounds of equipment, with helmets on in 130 degrees. That’s who’s fighting this war. And they say “stay the course.” There’s no plan. You open up this plan for victory, there’s no plan there. It’s just “stay the course.” That doesn’t solve any problem…”
MR. ROVE: Congressman Murtha said, “Let’s redeploy them immediately to another country in the Middle East. Let’s get out of Iraq and go to another country.” My question is, what country would take us? What country would say after the United States cut and run from Iraq, what country in the Middle East would say, “Yeah. Paint a big target on our back and then you’ll cut and run on us.” What country would say that? What country would accept our troops?
MR. RUSSERT: What’s your response?
REP. MURTHA: There’s many countries understand the importance of stability in the Middle East. This is an international problem. We, we use 20 million barrels of oil a day. China’s the second largest user. All these countries understand you need stability for the energy supply that’s available in the Middle East. So there’s many, many countries.
MR. RUSSERT: Who?
REP. MURTHA: Kuwait’s one that will take us. Qatar, we already have bases in Qatar. So Bahrain. All those countries are willing to take the United States. Now, Saudi Arabia won’t because they wanted us out of there in the first place. So—and we don’t have to be right there. We can go to Okinawa. We, we don’t have—we can redeploy there almost instantly. So that’s not—that’s, that’s a fallacy. That, that’s just a statement to ryle up people to support a failed policy wrapped in illusion….
There’s so much more and it just keeps getting more nonsensical.
Then, there is his Jan.23, 2007 testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee:
Washington D.C. – Mr. Chairman, Senator Lugar and distinguished members of this Committee, For the past five years, the U.S. has had, on average, over 130,000 troops on the ground in Iraq. The Pentagon reports that the Iraqi Security Forces have grown in number, nearly reaching their goal of 325,000 trained and equipped. The Iraqis have a Constitution and have held national elections. These milestones have been met, yet security in Iraq continues to deteriorate. The past four years of the Iraq War have been plagued by mischaracterization based on unrealistic optimism instead of realism. Reality dictates that conditions on the ground are simply moving in the wrong direction.
There are limits to military power. There is no U.S. military solution to Iraq’s civil war. It is up to the Iraqis…
You can read the rest at the link ~ mostly it’s all Democrat talking points that have nothing to do with reality, as usual.
On February 28, 2007, he states: “General Pace can’t have it both ways.”
Washington D.C. – Rep. Murtha released the following editiorial to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in response to General Peter Pace’s testimony to the Senate Appropriations Committee:
General Peter Pace testified on Tuesday to the Senate Appropriations Committee that my plan to restore military readiness in order to meet current and future threats and to require the Pentagon to uphold its own guidelines, standards and policies would somehow be damaging on the battlefield.
General Pace himself recently issued a report to Congress that said because of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, there is a significant risk that our military won’t be able to quickly and fully respond to another crisis. Two weeks ago, General Peter Schoomaker said the President’s surge in combat troops will further erode the Army’s ability to respond to other incidents around the world.
General Pace also indicated that if he was forced to adhere to established DoD readiness standards, one third of units currently programmed for Iraq could not be deployed. This statement is alarming. Is General Pace saying that he is willing to accept that in the near future, one third of the total military force in Iraq will not be fully manned, fully trained or fully equipped?
General Pace is trying to shift the blame, when in fact it is this Administration’s polices that are hurting our military.
Let’s revisit history. On November 17, 2005, I said that the failed war policies of this Administration were destroying the future of our military. I said that our military is stretched thin, that the war in Iraq is resulting in significant shortfalls at our bases in the U.S., and that we must rebuild our Army. I knew then that the war policies of this Administration were unsustainable, and that our military preparedness and our strategic reserve would suffer…
There’s more at the link above ~ mostly Murtha slapping himself on the back and bashing the Administration.
On May 25, 2007, he states:
Patience has run out and I feel a change in direction happening within the chambers of Congress. While we don’t have the votes right now to change the President’s policy, I believe that come September we will have the votes from both Democrats and Republicans to change policy and direction. In September, General Petraeus will report back on the progress of the surge, and Congress will take up both the $460 billion base defense appropriations bill and the $141 billion Iraq supplemental. The surge is not producing the results that were promised. And, based on my discussions with Iraqi Government officials, I don’t believe they have the motivation to bring about the political and economic benchmarks agreed to. This is why September will be key…
The surge hadn’t even fully begun yet and Murtha knows that it is not working. I’m sure our troops putting their lives on the line for this country are so appreciative of his vote of confidence. Not.
You can see his full voting record here. An interesting site to go to regarding “the Swiftboating of Jack Murtha” is here.
Okay, so that’s his political message. Let’s see how he shows his support for our finest:
“It [Haditha, Marines] is as bad as Abu Ghraib, if not worse.”
(Murtha, May 2006)
“They [the Marines/Military] knew the day after this happened that it was not as they portrayed it. They knew that they (marines) went into the rooms, they killed the people in the taxi. There was no firing at all. And this comes from the highest authority in the Marine Corps, so there’s no question in my mind,”
(Murtha, May 2006)
“… they [Marine] killed innocent civilians in cold blood.”
(Murtha, May 17, 2006 at news conference)
“There was no firefight. There was no IED that killed these innocent people. Our troops overreacted because of the pressure on them, and they killed innocent civilians in cold blood”
(Murtha, May 19, 2006)
“They actually went into the houses and killed women and children. And there was about twice as many as originally reported by Times.”
(Murtha, Reuters, May 19, 2006)
“Our troops over-reacted because of the pressure on them, and they killed innocent civilians in cold blood.”
(Murtha, ARAB WORLD NEWS, May 19, 2006)
“It’s [Haditha, Marines] much worse than reported in Time magazine.”
(Murtha, News.comAU, May 18, 2006)
BLITZER: The marines say they’re still investigating. They don’t know what happened yet. The pentagon says the same thing. How do you know what happened?
MURTHA: Wolf, you read the “Time” magazine articles. There are pictures, there are photos. You don’t have to talk to the military about the proof.
(Murtha, on CNN/Wolf Blitzer, May 19, 2006… transcript)

Murtha can visit Walter Reed Hospital as many times as he likes. He can vote for more money for vets. He can crow about his past service. He can say that he supports the troops.
He’s a liar. And a traitor to this country and it’s military.

The travesty continues ~
First trial begins in Hamdania killing
CAMP PENDLETON — A Marine corporal was described Monday as a remorseless killer who should be convicted of premeditated murder for the April 2006 slaying of an Iraqi civilian in the village of Hamdania….
Troops detail Hamdania killing: Men who reached plea agreements describe 2006 slaying of Iraqi civilian
Frustration from seeing suspected insurgents arrested then released a short time later and a desire to “send a message” led to the slaying of a retired Iraqi policeman, two Camp Pendleton troops said Tuesday….

There’s a lot of info here that will show the true face of the NCIS. It isn’t pretty.
[Attorney Melissa Epstein] said the man was not Awad but Hashem Gowad, cousin of Saleh Gowad and also a suspected insurgent. Epstein said the military waited until 11 days ago to give her team some documents suggesting the identification problem.
This development was reported in a single newspaper, the San Diego Union-Tribune.
Where the hell is the media on this story?
Unfortunately, the media has a habit of reporting only the parts of a story that fit in with their agenda and that tends to be on the side of the “alleged victims”, especially if they’re “victims” of our military.
Hearing officer recommends dismissal of Haditha charges
NORTH COUNTY — Citing insufficient evidence, a military hearing officer is recommending that all charges be dropped against a Camp Pendleton Marine accused of murdering three of 24 Iraqi civilians slain in Haditha in 2005….
Hearing officer: Haditha commander should be court-martialed CAMP PENDLETON — A Marine battalion commander whose troops killed 24 Iraqi civilians in Haditha following a 2005 roadside bombing should face trial because he “failed to do his duty” by not fully investigating the deaths, according to a military hearing officer….
Haditha hearing officer has more work ahead
CAMP PENDLETON — The military hearing officer who has recommended murder charges be dropped against one of three Marines charged in the 2005 slaying of 24 Iraqi civilians in Haditha will also preside over hearings for the other two….
Will Murtha Apologize?
“An investigating officer has recommended dismissing murder charges against a Marine accused in the slayings of three Iraqi men in a squad action that killed 24 civilians in Haditha, according to a report released Tuesday,” the Associated Press reports:
The government’s theory that Lance Cpl. Justin L. Sharratt had executed the three men was “incredible” and relied on contradictory statements by Iraqis, Lt. Col. Paul Ware said in the report, released by Sharratt’s defense attorneys.
“To believe the government version of facts is to disregard clear and convincing evidence to the contrary, and sets a dangerous precedent that, in my opinion, may encourage others to bear false witness against Marines as a tactic to erode public support of the Marine Corps and mission in Iraq,” Ware wrote.
This was the incident in which Rep. John Murtha accused the Marines of killing Iraqis “in cold blood”–a charge, as we noted in May 2006, that was self-contradictory. In November ScrippsNews reported that Cpl. Sharratt’s parents were “enraged” with Murtha, who is their congressman. Perhaps it’s time for him to apologize.

Murtha & Code Pink
As well he should, along with all the other Democrats and “tired” Republicans who are doing their damndest to cut down our military.
Can we redeploy the majority in the Congress??!! It’s definitely a quagmire and they certainly haven’t met their “benchmarks”. (if you only click on one link in this post, make sure it’s this one!)
And now we have the Fallujah Marines:
As reported by Tony Perry in the Los Angeles Times, Josh White in the Washington Post, and others, this website (DefendOurMarines.com) was the first to break the story behind the investigation into an incident arising from combat in Fallujah in 2004.
Read about their (the NCIS) methods in The NCIS Exposed: Documents in the Petty Officer Daniel King case.
I seriously suggest there be an investigation into the NCIS, instead of wasting our tax dollars and the politicians time on all the “Get Bush” witch hunts now going on up on The Hill. (and it’s said that McCarthyism is dead…ha!)
